Fintech startup Natural has secured $30 million in Series A funding to build purpose-built payment rails for autonomous AI agents. The round, led by VC firm Forerunner Ventures, brings Natural's total raised capital to $40 million as the company positions itself to challenge incumbent payment giants like Stripe in the emerging agentic economy.

💳 Why Legacy Financial Rails Fail Autonomous Agents

Modern financial rails (including credit card networks, ACH transfers, and SWIFT) were engineered specifically for human-initiated commerce. While AI software agents can now autonomously source freight vendors, analyze contracts, and negotiate pricing, completing the final transaction step traditionally stalls because existing banking systems mandate human authorization and manual verification.

"It just feels obvious that agentic payments are going to be structurally the most important problem in the space," said Natural co-founder and CEO Kahlil Lalji, who previously co-founded Y Combinator-backed Ivella.

⚙️ Building the Agent Orchestration Layer

Founded in 2025 by Kahlil Lalji, Eric Wang, and former Nextdoor engineering leader Walt Leung, Natural functions as a specialized orchestration layer that grants software agents secure wallets to store, transfer, and settle digital funds.

Key capabilities of the Natural platform include:

  • Autonomous Escrow: Dynamic holding mechanisms that release funds only after confirmed agent task execution.
  • Agent-to-Agent Settlement: Instant, low-friction microtransactions between disparate AI bots.
  • Redesigned Dispute Resolution: Programmatic dispute protocols designed to resolve machine-generated order anomalies without long bank chargeback delays.

⚔️ Competing Against Incumbents

Although established payment giants such as Stripe are actively developing agent-focused API extensions, Natural's founders believe an agile startup designed from day one around machine-to-machine financial primitives can innovate faster. The startup has already recruited key engineering talent from fintech leaders including Ramp, Square, and Stripe.

With the new $30 million capital injection, Natural plans to transition out of its closed beta phase, expand enterprise integrations, and establish the primary financial rails powering the future of autonomous digital trade.
